Splendid first Anthony Cup

On Saturday, May 17, twelve Finn class crews gathered on Galgenweel for the "Anthony Cup" organised by SRNA in cooperation with RYCB. This marked a fresh start for the season and the site of Galgenweel as the venue had recently undergone renovations, including upgrades to the docks and the green spaces around the local sailing clubs. The event was flawlessly organized, creating a great atmosphere for both sailors and spectators.

The day saw three races in the morning and two in the afternoon. The wind conditions were highly unpredictable, challenging every team to read the shifts carefully and stay sharp on every upwind leg. Strategy and quick thinking were key, with each crew working hard to find the best lanes and keep their edge. By the afternoon, the wind picked up steadily, turning the event into a spectacular sailing day. The regatta wrapped up with the crews gathering on the grass by the lake for the prize ceremony and a well-earned moment of relaxation. The SRNA clubs’ hospitality was on full display, offering a warm lunch break earlier in the day and amazing prices thanks to great amount of sponsors. As for the results: after five intense races, Sigurd took the top spot with remarkable consistency. He nailed the first two races with back-to-back wins and followed up with a solid third-place finish to close out the morning—giving him a comfortable lead and ultimately sealing the victory. Wim came in second, sailing a strong and steady series. Although the shifty conditions in the morning didn’t play entirely in his favor, he recovered impressively in the afternoon with three consecutive second-place finishes. Stijn rounded out the podium in third place. He stayed close to the leaders through the morning and then stepped up in the afternoon, winning both of the final races and securing his spot on the podium with authority. Just behind the top three, Filip, Massimo, and Jan were locked in a tight battle, finishing within a handful of points of each other. They were followed by the ever-solid Jan, Jelle, Björn, Maurits, Joost, Willy and Christof—each showing strong form and determination on a tricky day of sailing. All in all, it was a fantastic day of racing—an ideal way to measure early-season form and fine-tune performance ahead of the big event: the Marter's World Championships in Medemblik this June.
